Ella

Ella is a small hill town that has developed a deserved reputation as one of the
most photogenic and accessible destinations in Sri Lanka. The Nine Arch Bridge, a redbrick railway viaduct built in 1921 and still carrying trains through the tea country, has
become one of the island’s most recognizable images. Beyond the social media trail, Ella
offers genuine hiking — Mini Adam’s Peak for sunrise views over the valley, Ravana Falls
for a cool afternoon — as well as a relaxed, welcoming village atmosphere and excellent
food. The train journey from Kandy to Ella, through the highland tea estates, is considered
one of the world’s great rail experiences.
